What is FitFido and why should you participate

Welcome to FitFido – Your Partner in Pet Healthy Weight!

Congratulations on choosing to prioritise your furry friend's well-being by considering our FitFido pet healthy weight program, recommended to you by your veterinary practice. If your dog has recently undergone neutering, keeping track of their weight becomes significantly crucial. By joining our program, you're demonstrating your commitment to your pet's health and aiding other pet owners in preventing weight-related issues in the future. 

FitFido is a 6-month program led by Linnaeus Veterinary Group and developed in partnership with Waltham Petcare Institute, Mars Petcare, Royal Canin, and ManyPets Pet Insurance, who share a vision of creating A BETTER WORLD FOR PETS.

We built this program to provide pet parents with access to trustful sources of information and a wealth of interactive tools, resources, tips, and hints to help you monitor your dog's weight and prevent obesity post-neutering.

What is the connection between healthy weight and neutering?

Did you know that more than half of the pets in the UK are estimated to be over their ideal body weight? This alarming trend not only affects a pet's lifespan but also diminishes their overall quality of life. Neutering, specifically, has been identified as a potential cause of weight gain in pets due to the alterations in their energy and nutritional needs during this phase.

This sounds alarming. Is there anything I can do as a pet owner?

Fear not! FitFido is here to lend a helping paw! As a participant in our programme, you'll gain access to an array of interactive tools and educational resources around healthy weight management, nutrition, and exercise aimed at monitoring your pup’'s weight and preventing obesity post-neutering. Your vet will also support you on this journey. We'll guide you through understanding why dogs may encounter weight-related issues and provide actionable steps to maintain your pup's ideal weight.

That’s great! How can I participate?

There are a couple of eligibility criteria: 

1. You should be a customer of one of the participating clinics.
2. Your pup is about to go or has just gone through neutering, and keeping track of their weight is now more important than ever!
3. Your pup is a maximum of 12 months old at the time of programme enrollment.

Other than that, participating in FitFido is straightforward and free of charge. Simply create your and your pet’s profile on the FitFido website and assign your vet practice. Once your vet practice approves you - you are in!

What will happen once I sign up?

Once you sign up you will get access to the following tools:

1. Our Weight Management Hub with plenty of articles on the topics of healthy weight management, nutrition, and exercise;
2. Our interactive video lessons. You can complete one lesson a month;
3. Our interactive Growth Chart to log your pet's weight over six months and see how your puppy is growing and developing;
4. Control weight check-ins. Your veterinary practice will also assist you by conducting controlled weight and body condition check-ins at specified intervals throughout the trial: at 3 months (mid-program) and 6 months (end of the program)

Your participation in the programme will finish after 6 months with the final control check-in at your vet practice. But you will still be able to use the website and our tools.
